There’s never a good time for a funeral, and that’s a fact of life. A departure is always a tragic loss for everybody involved, but sometimes the circumstances make the situation even more concerning.
Funerals are expensive, and some people find themselves unable to deal with this expense when it arrives, so what can you do if this happens to you?
Consider your options
The first thing we need to understand is that a complete funeral service isn’t the only way to say goodbye to the departed and let them rest. So instead of asking what if you can’t afford a funeral? Let’s take a closer look at some alternative options.
A funeral service with rented facilities adds up to the overall costs of the process, so they are one of the first options you can cut on. Gathering at home can save you hundreds of dollars while still allowing you to spend time with your loved ones in memory of those that left.
If burial is already too expensive, then you can opt for cremation, cremation is usually only 1/3rd of the cost compared to a traditional funeral burial, and that can be enough to get you back on budget.
What happens if you can’t afford cremation, then? At that point, your best bet is to look into payment plans to help you deal with the cost in more affordable installments, which I’ll be covering next.
Funerals Payment plans go a long way.
If all of the funeral arrangements are too expensive for you at the moment or you are set on a specific tier, the best option is to opt for a payment plan. You’ll need good credit, but that’s generally the only hurdle. You can do this directly with the funeral home or contact your bank for a loan.
Usually, a payment plan with the funeral home will be the easiest option. You’ll be interacting directly with the same people who will perform the funeral duties for you, and more often than not, there are many payment plans in place by default. However, if you have a good record with your bank and access to good loan opportunities, that is also a great way to get out of your current predicament.
Regardless of how you approach it getting a payment plan or a loan will make the overall cost of the process much more approachable and will help you pay for the funeral services on time.
Let’s sum it up
Funerals can be expensive, and unfortunately, they are another concern to add up to an already trying time. However, what’s most important is to keep calm and remember there always are options.
